Duties and Responsibilities Of School Caretaker Job

Driving

  • Transport students and teachers to and from the main campus to the diploma college
  • Ensure the shuttle schedule is adhered to, making sure students and teachers are on time for lessons
  • Run any errands and collect orders when needed

Maintenance

  • Drawing the attention of the school principal to any repair or maintenance work required at the school which is beyond the caretaker’s ability to deal with. To carry out minor or temporary repairs as directed
  • Carrying out routine maintenance procedures according to the daily and termly checklists
  • Tidying and sweeping outside areas, as well as looking after plants
  • Review the facilities ticket system and respond to logged repair requests

Storekeeping

  • Ensuring that all parcels delivered to the school reach the addressee by the end of the day
  • Taking delivery of stores, materials and other goods and safely storing them
  • Ensuring that adequate supplies of cleaning material are available for the cleaning staff
  • Restocking and tidying copier and coffee machines
  • Transport mail and internal documents to and from both campuses

Security

  • Preventing trespassers on school premises or grounds and ensuring that unauthorised parking of vehicles does not occur
  • Responding when the school alarm system is set off and arrange for the system to be reset
  • Maintenance and testing of the fire, lockdown and intruder alarms
  • Supervise external contractors visiting the school premises as directed

Cleaning

  • Cleaning graffiti and other defacing marks on the campus
  • Keep the corridors and staircases clean and tidy during the afternoon
  • Clear up any emergency spillages that occurs around the school during the afternoon
  • Check on and regularly clean all toilets and washrooms. Replenish toiletries if required
  • Ensuring that adequate quantities of toiletries including toilet rolls, paper towels liquid and bar soap are kept in stock

Miscellaneous

  • Make note of the enquiries from teaching staff, students, parents, workmen, contractors and members of the public as well as with the emergency services (e.g. Police, Fire Brigade, etc) as and when required and direct them to the Site Supervisor
  • Help set up for school events, assemblies and concerts; arranging furniture in rooms wherever necessary
  • Move and set up furniture in classrooms when necessary
  • Participate in weekly facilities team meetings
  • Ensuring that there is a clock in every room which is working and showing the correct time

Suitable candidates must have the following

  • Have a valid PCV (D) license
  • Have full CPC
  • Have a full enhanced CRB/DBS (or willing to apply)
  • Previous experience

Successful candidate will be paid a rate of £10.20 per hour.
