JOB PURPOSE

 

To contribute to the efficient running of the kitchen department for very well-known Care Homes based in Bromley and South London areas.

Overview of Main Responsibilities (What the job involves)

Kitchen Responsibilities 

Ø  Supervisor of the kitchen function ensuring the smooth running of the shifts

Ø  Overseeing and assisting with quarterly kitchen audits and quarterly stock checks

Ø  Overseeing and assisting with seasonal menus

Ø  Overseeing quality and effective food ordering

Ø  Overseeing and ensuring all risk assessments, food guidelines and necessary paperwork are both completed, documented and easily accessible within the kitchens

Ø  To ensure handbooks are updated in each home as and when required by the operations manager

Ø  To check faulty equipment is being routinely logged as and when required and followed up

Ø  Oversee and ensure temperature checks are being carried out

Ø  To assist cooks with any required orders for the kitchen and send through any equipment  or non food requests to the operations manager.

Ø  To ensure all rotas are displayed correctly and any memos sent by the operations manager are also displayed accordingly.

Ø  Assist with the cooking of meals and snacks for residents within the guidelines laid down by the Services Manager.

Ø  Ensure  a high standard of hygiene when preparing food for the residents

Ø  Assist with food service by taking food and beverage trolley to the dining area within the home.

Ø  Assist with the preparation of Menu’s

Ø  Monitor provisions reporting to the operations manager ensuring stock levels are maintained

Ø  Assist with deliveries

Ø  Assist with washing up and putting away cutlery

Ø  Assist with cleaning rota

Engagement with staff  

Ø  Ensure staff work schedules are completed and paperwork signed and completed

Ø  Provide “On the job” training to all staff ensuring effective records are kept

Ø  Induction of new staff

Ø  Organise training for staff as directed by operations manager

Ø  Arrange staff meetings as and when needed.

Ø  Arrange regular supervisions with cooks and oversee the supervision of the Kitchen assistants

Engaging with residents

Ø  Assist residents at meal times or allocate staff where needed as directed by the Nurse in charge

Ø  Communicate positively with residents and relatives within the home promoting Mission Cares ethos and values

Working with colleagues

Ø  Work collaboratively and as part of a team with all colleagues in order to maintain the quality of catering within the home.

Ø  Assist colleagues in their duties where necessary in order to deliver the best level of service.

Professional Responsibility

Ø  To be familiar with, and adhere to the policies and procedures of the services department

Ø  To be aware of HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) within the  kitchen.

Ø  To be familiar with food hygiene

Ø  To be familiar with the staff handbook

Ø  Maintain professional competence and knowledge.

Ø  Raise any issues of concern to Line Manager

Ø  To be responsible for completing time sheet and respecting working time directive

Ø  Attend mandatory training as directed by Line Manager
