We are seeking an experienced Bricklayer to join our team on a residential and commercial project in West End, London, W1. The successful candidate will have proven expertise in laying bricks, blocks, and stone with precision and skill, ensuring all work meets building regulations and quality standards.
You will be responsible for interpreting blueprints, preparing mortar, maintaining work areas, and collaborating with other trades on site. The ideal candidate should possess NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in bricklaying, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work safely at height. You must have a valid CSCS card, be physically fit, and demonstrate excellent problem-solving abilities.

Bricklayer β Key Responsibilities
- β’ Laying bricks, blocks, and stones to build walls, arches, and other structures on residential and commercial properties throughout West Endβ’ Reading and interpreting architectural drawings and specifications to ensure accurate placement and alignment of brickworkβ’ Mixing mortar to the correct consistency and applying it between bricks using trowels and other toolsβ’ Checking plumb, level, and line to maintain structural integrity and aesthetic appeal of completed workβ’ Preparing surfaces and removing old mortar during renovation and restoration projects common in historic West End properties
β’ Working with various materials including London stock bricks, natural stone, and decorative brickwork
β’ Operating power tools and equipment safely while adhering to strict health and safety regulations
β’ Maintaining scaffolding and working at heights, often on multi-story buildings in central London locations
β’ Inspecting completed work to ensure quality standards meet building regulations and client expectations
β’ Communicating with architects, project managers, and other tradespeople to coordinate work schedules and resolve issues
β’ Keeping work areas clean and organized while managing waste materials responsibly
β’ Repairing and maintaining existing brickwork on period properties typical of West End developments
β’ Calculating material quantities and costs for project estimation
β’ Following sustainable practices and environmental guidelines required in West End conservation areas
β’ Adapting to weather conditions and adjusting work schedules accordingly in London's climate
What We're Looking For
Essential Requirements
β’ Level 2 NVQ in Brickwork or equivalent qualification
β’ Minimum 3 years proven brickwork experience
β’ Ability to lay bricks to precise specifications and standards
β’ Knowledge of mortar mixing and pointing techniques
β’ Proficiency with bricklaying tools and equipment
β’ Understanding of health and safety regulations on construction sites
β’ Physical fitness and ability to work at heights
β’ Attention to detail and accuracy in measurements
β’ CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) essential
β’ Experience working on London construction projects preferred
β’ Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings
β’ Professional communication and teamwork skills
β’ Flexibility with working hours and site schedules
β’ Valid public liability insurance
β’ First aid certification desirable
Desirable Experience
β’ Worked on high-end residential renovations in prestigious Mayfair and Fitzrovia properties
β’ Experience with listed building restoration and conservation work requiring specialist masonry skills
β’ Collaborated with luxury developers and private clients on bespoke architectural projects
β’ Proficient in traditional lime mortar pointing and repair techniques for period properties
β’ Handled premium materials including handmade bricks, natural stone, and specialty finishes
β’ Maintained strict quality standards and attention to detail on high-value projects
β’ Experienced working alongside architects and surveyors on complex structural requirements
β’ Familiar with West End planning regulations and building control procedures
β’ Successfully completed multiple projects within tight timelines and budgets
β’ Proven ability to work discreetly on occupied residential properties
β’ Experience with both external facade work and internal masonry features
β’ Strong knowledge of contemporary brickwork combined with traditional craftsmanship
β’ Reliable, professional approach to client-facing work in affluent areas
