Key Responsibilities of a School Cook

• Prepare, cook, and present a high volume of fresh, healthy, and appealing meals daily in line with school meal standards and nutritional guidelines.
• Plan menus in collaboration with kitchen managers, considering dietary requirements, allergies (e.g., nuts, gluten), and cultural preferences.
• Maintain exemplary standards of kitchen hygiene, cleanliness, and safety, adhering to all HACCP and Food Safety regulations.
• Manage stock control, conduct regular inventory checks, and assist with ordering supplies to minimise waste and control costs.
• Work efficiently as part of a kitchen team, supporting colleagues and assisting with the supervision of kitchen assistants or catering apprentices.
• Ensure all kitchen equipment is used correctly and report any maintenance issues promptly to the relevant person.
• Engage positively with students and staff, representing the catering service in a professional and friendly manner.

What We're Looking For: Essential Requirements

• A proven track record as a Cook, Chef, or Commis Chef, with experience in high-volume catering. School kitchen experience is a significant advantage.
• A valid Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene certificate (or equivalent) is essential; a Level 3 certificate is highly desirable.
• Excellent time-management and organisational skills, with the ability to work calmly and efficiently under pressure during busy lunch service periods.
• A strong understanding of allergen control, dietary needs, and current nutritional standards for children.
• A positive, can-do attitude, reliability, and a genuine passion for producing quality food that supports education.
