Key Responsibilities & Day-to-Day Duties
- Provide direct, empathetic support and companionship to service users with varying mental health needs, including anxiety, depression, psychosis, and personality disorders.
- Assist with the implementation of personalised care plans, contributing to regular reviews and supporting the achievement of individual recovery goals.
- Administer medication safely and accurately, following strict protocols and maintaining meticulous records in line with CQC standards.
- Support service users with daily living activities, promoting independence, healthy routines, and social integration within the Manchester community.
- Monitor and record changes in an individual’s mental state, behaviour, and physical health, reporting any concerns promptly to the Site Supervisor or nursing team.
- Facilitate group activities and one-to-one sessions aimed at developing life skills, building confidence, and reducing social isolation.
- Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team (MDT), including social workers, community psychiatric nurses (CPNs), and occupational therapists.
- Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and clean environment for all service users, adhering to all health, safety, and safeguarding policies.
Essential Requirements & Skills
- Proven Experience: Minimum 6 months of recent paid experience as a Mental Health Support Worker, Care Worker, or in a similar role within a UK healthcare setting.
- Qualifications: An NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent is highly desirable. Training in PMVA (Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression), First Aid, or Medication Administration is a strong advantage.
- Personal Attributes: Exceptional empathy, patience, resilience, and a genuine passion for supporting mental health recovery. The ability to remain calm under pressure is essential.
- Compliance: A valid, enhanced DBS certificate (we can assist with a new application). Eligibility to work in the UK without restriction.
- Local Knowledge: Familiarity with Manchester M4 and the ability to travel to various locations is required for community-based roles.
